Marshall! And Carl! 🥰
I present to you, the most time-consuming Cow Spider in Disguise I have ever made. 😆 I was going to say the most time-consuming plushy, but that would be a lie. I had to remind myself how long it took me to make the Lanky Monster pattern. 😣😆 Anywho! Marshall took freaking forever! He is made from Oscar Mongolian faux fur, which I've had my eye on for one of these cows for a while, with several brownish Beaver accents. As with all of our plushies, he is weighted, and it quite a good snuggler. 🥰 I really loved the idea of making a mossy-looking dude with mushrooms for horns, so I did the thing! 😆 I even badgered my Jerri into teaching us how to needle felt so I could make the mushrooms! 🥰 Would it have been way, way faster to make them out of fabric? Probably! But I learned a new skill, and I love having the different textures. 🥰 Once I finished the mushrooms (I lost track of the time spent on them at around five hours...) and attached them to Marshall's sweet little noggin it still felt like he was missing something. So I spent another two hours making Carl! 🤣
Carl and Marshall met in the forest near Carl's home, an old oak stump near the border between the fairy and human realms. Carl was arguing with a woodpecker (who could speak, of course. What kind of story would this be if the birds didn't speak?), who had decided to start pecking out a home for itself in the second level of Carl's stump! Being a fae creature himself, Marshall is very attuned to all of the different creatures who live in his forest, and could sense that something was amiss. Marshall is very level-headed and is often asked to mediate between the different animals and creatures near his home in a nearby clearing (being part cow, part spider, and part fungus, Marshall requires grass for eating, moisture for his mushrooms, and two large trees between which to spin his web, so his clearing is ideal. He loves it very much, but also has a sense of adventure. 🥰). Carl can be a little hot-headed when faced with unreasonable creatures, so his interaction with the woodpecker devolved into a cacophony of squeaks, squawks, and shouts by the time Marshall stepped in. Once Marshall had sorted the mess out (the woodpecker still contends that he didn't do anything wrong; some creatures just can't be reasoned with), Carl thanked Marshall and complimented his mushrooms. They've been fast friends ever since and are more or less inseparable. When Marshall told Carl that he would be embarking on a new adventure in the human realm and looking for a family to settle down with, Carl knew he had to come along too! 🥰 Carl found the stoutest rope he could and tied off to one of Marshall's mushrooms so they don't become separated during their travels.
